About Snowy Mountains Flies
More Than a Professional Fly Tyer
Wayne was just 14 years old when he came across a copy of Ted Dawkins' Book `How to Tie trout Flies' which provided the initial spark for fly tying as it strongly appealed to his creative side as well as his hunting skills.
Unusually, Wayne did the opposite to most fly fishermen, learning to create flies before he ever fly fished. he quickly developed a passion for fly tying and spent many enjoyable hours honing his skills.
By the time he was 15, a local fishing store, Rod Gun and Gear was stocking and selling his flies which enable him to buy more exotic feathers and materials. This enabled him to design and create his own unique patterns such as Dixon's gum beetle, Patterson's curse and and Crackenback special.
20 years later,he started guiding and fly tying business in the Snowy Mountains where he enjoyed teaching people from all walks of life the art of fly fishing.
Making realistic and unique flies won him the Australian Masters Fly Tying Championships in 1996.
Whilst he has retired from guiding, the passion for fly tying is stronger than ever.Sourcing ever developing materials as well as well tracking down rare silks and feathers, he continues to create new patterns to tempt various fish species.
